Deciduous tree with growth height up to 25 meters, the leaves are up to 60 cm long and pinnate. As a park tree it has been planted in Central Europe for about 150 years.
Utilization: The wood is one of the most valuable veneer woods in furniture production ("Caucasian walnut"), therefore it is also used in forestry. The nuts are harvested in the home countries.
Toxic: the leaves are ground in water to produce a poison for hunting fish.
