The European Capital of Culture 2009 is truly unique: Linz is home to Europe's most modern opera house and a vibrant contemporary cultural scene, as well as a flourishing economy with top companies operating worldwide.
Linz is an exciting city and a successful one at that. Its history is long and eventful, and the city centre is architecturally unique, with the baroque main square in particular. But that's not what Linz is all about: the focus is on the present and the future.
Linz is not only situated in the heart of Europe in the centre of the Danube - Moldavia European Region, but is also easily accessible from all directions (and by all means of transport). A special relationship connects Linz and the Danube. Linz is literally so close to the Danube that ships travel on Europe's great waterway right through the city.
