Even the Romans knew it: This place is something! Already under Emperor Hadrian the former Celtic settlement was elevated to the status of "Ovilava". Today this charming little town in the heart of Upper Austria, located directly on the Romantic Road between Salzburg and Vienna, presents itself as a dynamic trade fair and shopping town with an excellent infrastructure. Numerous museums, events and great leisure facilities attract numerous visitors to Wels. The historic town square with its magnificent town houses and romantic arcade courtyards is one of the most beautiful enclosed squares in Austria.
